Both the video and the picture show that society has an unrealistic expectation for the beauty of women. The video shows how the media photoshops all their models before they put them on covers, magazines, the internet. The model with and without makeup look like two complete different people. The reason for this is for the people who see the magazines, websites, and television to want to be like them, to want to buy their products, and listen to how they can look like that. The picture shows a women looking in a mirror and seeing a barbie doll. This represents how she looks and how society wants her to look. It is impossible for a women to achieve society's standard of beauty because they cannot look like a barbie doll. They expect them to be thin, have nice hair, nice smile, putting on makeup, have a nice body, know how to cook, be smart, etc. Society expects all of that and much more. It is like they want women to be human barbies hence the picture. Society creates this ridiculous high standards for everyone in the community to follow. Everyone kills themselves to try to meet up to those standards. The media plays a role on this too because they advertise beauty in the wrong ways. They photoshop their models into unrealistic human beings and make regular normal people try their best to look like them. It is a trap because society says to you need to be naturally beautiful, you do not need diets, yet you need to be skinny, but they advertise beauty projects, ways to become skinnier, tips for diets, makeup tutorials, etc. The purpose for these sources were to advertise the unrealistic standards that society creates.
The following two pictures by unknown authors show how society does not care for the story you gave to tell, you are whatever economic level you are in. They think it is a people problem when it is a system problem. The first picture shows a human pyramid. The business men at the top saying "We rule you", the senate below them saying "We condemn you", the government saying "We exploit you", the judges under them saying "We judge you", the policemen saying "We jail you", the army saying "We control you", and lastly everyone else in the community is holding them up saying "But we carry you". This picture is really strong because it shows how it was for the lowest economy, class, social status the people at top would fall and not mean as much. Society says that the people at the bottom do not have what it takes to be at top when in reality they are the ones holding them up. Society is is rigged. It is survival of the fittest, but twisted. Women, poor, blacks, hispanics, middle class and lower class suffer from injustices. The second picture shows three men: a business men, middle class men, and lower class men. This image has the words "Class not a story" written across. This picture's purpose is to show people did not care about how you became who you are, if you need help, your story in general because to them you are just a class. Society expects them to work harder than whites to get about half of what they have. Society sets up standards for all races, all classes, and the female gender that are not appropriate. They do not get the same opportunities, treatment, or valuables like the people at top. The purpose for these two pictures were to inform people that society is corrupt.
This image by Andy Singer shows that social status, wealth, and class does matter. It means that a regular human being, middle class, not famous, not rich can get in trouble for a crime while if you're famous or rich it is just a scandal. This cartoon is absoulutely right. It shows how a regular person can do eight months in jail for drug possession while if you're ranked higher, you will just be on the news and go to rehab for the same crime. This cartoon illustrates injustice and inequality that people face today. This shows how society is hypocritical, how can two different people commit the same crime, but get different 'punishment' because of their class and economy level.
