This cartoon created by an unknown author shows that the Gilded Age was created for certain people to succeed. Of course the certain people were the wealthy the ones and the ones that had big businesses. This source shows me that the wealthy people were on top. They were ranked higher than most. In the picture, the wealthy person has money in their pocket, a cigarette in their hand, and has nice clothes on. The wealthy man was sketches bigger than anything else in the image; the symbol for law, government, and regular people were drawn much smaller. This was no coincidence, it was because the wealthy people were above most and thought they could do whatever they want. They also believe who ever was below them did not have what it took to be on top like them. I also feel like this cartoon is trying to say that senates were owned by business men.
This source shows that during the Gilded Age, Women had no rights. The occasion for the image is women protesting for their right. The purpose for the image is the following: "The
crusade against alcohol was a protest by women, in part, of their lack of
civil rights. Women could not vote. In most
states
women could not have control of their property or custody of their children in
case of divorce. There were no legal protections for women and children,
prosecutions for rape were rare, and the state-regulated "age of
consent" was as low as seven" (journeytohistory.com). This picture was created to show that women wanted more. They were tired of housework and were willing to take a stand about it.
This source shows me that the system was set up wrong. They made it seem like the people were the problem when they were not the problem. This cartoon by the NY Times shows the occasion of a circle of different types of class and economic level. The circle is arranged by the highest and wealthiest to the lowest class and poorest. They are all pointing to the left. The point of that is to show where they think all of their money is going to. At the left is the wealthiest and then you see middle class, lower class, poor, business men, etc. And there is a question in the bottom that says "Who stole the people;s money?" and then to the right the answer is "IT WAS HIM". The purpose for this cartoon is to show that during the Gilded Age, it was survival of the fittest. And the ones that were most likely to survive were the wealthy ones who owned businesses.
This source by an unknown author shows an expectation of women back then. Women were suppose to stay home, cook meals, take care of the family, and clean the house. They were not allowed to voted or have legal rights for anything. They were not even allowed to have jobs, but some try so have secret jobs. The occasion for this image is a women that looks like she is middle class is cooking a meal. The audience is other women and everyone else. The purpose for this image is to inform other of the expectation of women back then. Til this day women have a lot of expectations. One of them being that they have to do most of the cooking and cleaning, but now they are allowed to have jobs, go to school, vote, have rights, etc.
